เกิดแผ่นดินไหวรุนแรงเกินขนาด 7.5 ริกเตอร์ในเปรู และแผ่นดินไหวขนาด 5.3 ริกเตอร์ในญี่ปุ่น
(16สค.) เกิดแผ่นดินไหวรุนแรงในแถบชายฝั่งและกรุงลิมาของเปรูเมื่อเวลา 18.41 น.ของวันพุธตามเวลาท้องถิ่นหรือราว 6.41 น.วันนี้ตามเวลาไทย โดยจุดศูนย์กลางอยู่ลึก 178 กิโลเมตรและห่างจากกรุงลิมาไปทางตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ 46 กิโลเมตร ทางการเปรูระบุว่าแผ่นดินไหวครั้งนี้วัดความรุนแรงได้ 7.7 ริกเตอร์ ขณะที่สำนักธรณีวิทยาของสหรัฐ วัดได้ 7.5 ริกเตอร์ แรงสั่นสะเทือนเกิดขึ้นนานเกือบ 1 นาทีในกรุงลิมา และมีอาฟเตอร์ช็อคตามมาหนึ่งครั้ง สร้างความแตกตื่นแก่ประชาชน ทำให้อาคารบ้านได้รับความเสียหาย ระบบการสื่อสารโทรคมนาคมล่ม แต่ระบบไฟฟ้าและน้ำประปายังคงใช้การได้ตามปกติ ขณะที่ในญี่ปุ่นเกิดแผ่นดินไหวขนาด 5.3 ริกเตอร์ ลึกลงไปใต้ทะเล 30 กิโลเมตรนอกชายฝั่งจังหวัดชิบะเมื่อเวลา 4.15 น.วันนี้ตามเวลาญี่ปุ่นหรือ 2.15 น.วันนี้ตามเวลาไทย โดยแรงสั่นสะเทือนทำให้อาคารหลายหลังสั่นไหวทั้งในกรุงโตเกียวและพื้นที่ใกล้เคียงรวมถึงประเทศจีน แต่ยังไม่มีรายงานความเสียหาย นอกจากมีผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บเล็กน้อย 1 คนในจังหวัดชิบะ และทำให้ประชาชนที่กำลังหลับสนิทต้องตื่นขึ้นมาด้วยความตกใจ รถไฟต้องหยุดวิ่งให้บริการชั่วครู่ และมีอาฟเตอร์ช็อคตามมาหลายครั้ง <TABLE align=center><TBODY></TBODY></TABLE>

Two Powerful Earthquakes Rock Central Regions; Tsunami Warning Issued

Two powerful earthquakes reportedly struck off the coast of central Peru at 1840 local time on 15 August. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported approximately 60 kilometers (36 miles) west of Pisco in the Ica region. The tremors were felt in Pucallpa, Iquitos, Contamana and in larger cities inlcuding Arequipa, Trujillo, Cajamarca and the capital, Lima.
Following the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued a tsunami warning for Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile.

The center also issued a tsunami watch for Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico and Honduras. A tsunami advisory was issued for Hawaii.

No casualties have yet been reported, although a fire broke out in Lima. Several poorly constructed houses in town of Pisco were reportedly destroyed due to the earthquake.
Buildings reportedly shook in Lima, causing people to spill out to the streets in panic.

According to the US Geological Survey, the first earthquake registered a magnitude of 7.7 and the second 7.5.

There remains a risk of strong aftershocks from the powerful quake. International SOS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information is available.

เหตุแผ่นดินไหวรุนแรงในเปรูยังก่อให้เกิดคลื่น สึนามิเดินทางไกลครึ่งโลกถึงชายฝั่งญี่ปุ่น โดยชายฝั่งเกาะฮอกไกโดทางภาคเหนือและชายฝั่งเกาะโอกินาวาทางภาคใต้ เกิดคลื่นสึนามิสูงราว 8 นิ้ว ชายหาดหลาย แห่งถูกสั่งปิด ห้ามผู้คนลงเล่นน้ำทะเล

ส่วนเมื่อช่วงเช้าวันศุกร์ เกิดแผ่นดินไหวรุนแรง 6.2 ริกเตอร์ เขย่าพื้นที่ใต้ทะเลห่างจากเมืองอัมบอน บนเกาะโมลุกกะ ทางภาคตะวันออกของอินโดนีเซีย แต่ไม่มีรายงานความเสียหายหรือมีคำเตือนภัยเกิดคลื่นสึนามิ นอกจากนั้น ยังมีรายงานแผ่นดินไหวต่อเนื่องตามมาอีกหลายครั้ง

ขณะเดียวกัน ภัยธรรมชาติยังคงถล่มหลายพื้นที่ ของโลก ไล่ตั้งแต่พายุไต้ฝุ่น
